The geographical position
The area of Beregsas
(Beregovo) was formed by January 22, 1946 with receives the status of district .
The district of Beregsas is (Beregovo) situated in south-western part of Transcarpathian
region, in north it borders on the district of Munkach, in east – on the district of
Irsava and Vinogradyiv, in west – on the district of Uzhorod, in south and south-west it
passes border of Ukraine with Hungary.
The total area of the territory constitutes 802 square kilometers. Its population is about
82.4 thousand. According to the national composition the population of the district is
made up of:
- 56.971 Hungarians (or 67 %)
- 21.584 Ukrainians (or 25 %)
- 2.881 Russians (or 3.4 %)
- Others -4.2 %
There are 43 occupied items on the territory of the district, 30 of which are subordinated
to village councils and 1 – to a town-like settlement council.
